Due to the uncertainty of face-to-face instruction, Fresno State has announced that tuition and mandatory fees will not be refunded if virtual instruction continues.
In a press release, the campus said this is in accordance with CSU policy.
“Even as CSU campuses such as ours, have curtailed limited aspects of their operations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are providing students with academic credit for courses taken and support services such as registration, financial aid and academic advising,” the university said. “Further, campus mandatory fees, such as the health fee that provides students medical and counseling services, will continue as well.”
Since many students may not be able to return to campus in the fall, the university said it will continue to offer virtual instruction for courses, as an option for fall 2020, even in the case that the campus returns to face-to-face instruction.
Although no decision has been made on resuming in-person instruction, Fresno State said it will likely be through a phased approach when it happens, with certain types of classes considered more appropriate to resume in-person than others.
The university added changes will be made in classrooms and laboratories to follow public-health directives, such as increasing hand washing, avoiding sharing equipment when possible, wearing appropriate facial coverings and/or practicing physical distancing.
During the President’s Forum on April 23, Fresno State President Dr. Joseph I. Castro said a decision regarding the fall semester will be made most likely in the middle of May.
