An advisory warning has been issued for those looking to navigate through campus during their commutes, as Fresno State University Communications announced on Friday that several roadway and parking lot closures are occurring due to the Resnick Student Union (RSU) project.
Parking lot P31, located south of the University Center, will be closed for the duration of the winter break starting Friday, Dec. 20. The closure of the parking lot is expected to last until Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, three days before the start of the spring semester.
Fortunately for commuters, additional staff parking stalls have been made available in parking lot P30 during the break. P30 is located in front of the south wing of the Henry Madden Library. Parking lot P30 will continue to be accessible from Barton Ave. and once the parking lot P31 is reopened on Jan. 14 it will also be accessible from Barton Ave.
Disabled parking spaces are available in lots P29, P30 and north of the Student Health Center. Disabled parking stalls will also be available on the south side of Keats Ave., but all other parking stalls along Keats Ave. will not be available.
The closure of parking lot P31 is not the only change that commuters have to plan for, as Keats Ave. will be closed to all vehicles beginning on Jan. 6 2020 until the completion of the RSU in fall 2021.
The decision to close Keats Ave. is an effort by the university to ensure the safety of pedestrians during construction. Pedestrians will continue to have access along Keats Ave. during this time.
All construction traffic will be restricted to enter the project site from Maple and Keats Ave. Access will only be allowed to authorized vehicles traveling to existing loading docks that will be serving the Kremen Education, Lab School and Music, as they will remain open and accessible.
The fire lane south of the Keats Building that serves Speech Arts will also be open and accessible, but only for authorized vehicles.
