The Fresno State women’s soccer team had two Bulldogs earn 2019 All-Mountain West (MW) Second Team honors, according to a news release from Fresno State Athletics.
The two Bulldogs honored on Monday were junior forward Ele Avery and senior defender Megan Amick. This is Avery’s second All-MW selection in her collegiate career while this is Amick’s first career All-MW Selection.
“We are so happy to have two of our players recognized by our peers,” said head coach Brian Zwaschka in the release. “These young women deserve the notoriety, yet they know it takes a whole team of support to help them play their best. I believe these individual awards could go to many players on our team, including Megan and Ele, so we will all enjoy the achievement together.”
Avery led the Bulldogs’ offense through conference play with five goals, 10 points and 16 shots on goal. Avery saw action in all 11 conference games and started in five of those 11 games. All of her goals were recorded in five different matches, and she had at least one shot in all of her 11 games. Avery also scored the equalizing goal in both the Utah State and Boise State matches. In the 2-1 victory against Boise State, Avery logged her season-high four shots.
Amick, a 2019 team captain, was solid on defense for the Bulldogs throughout conference play. The senior defender played all 11 MW matches and started in nine of those conference games. She was second on the team in minutes with a total of 886 minutes played in the backfield.
The Bulldogs enter the MW Championship Tournament as the No. 6 team and will face off against No. 3 Colorado State University in the quarterfinals, which takes place this year in Boise, Idaho.
