The Fresno State women’s tennis coaching staff was bolstered on Friday, as head coach Ric Motera announced that former Valley high school star Patrick Huls will join the program as a volunteer assistant coach, according to a Fresno State Athletics news release.
Huls is coming off a successful run at the 2018 United States Tennis Association Nationals, leading the Fig Garden Swim and Racquet Club’s men’s 4.5 team to a third-place finish.
But the success started nearly a decade ago for the Clovis West alumnus.
Huls accumulated a lengthy resume during his time at Clovis West, being chosen as a two-time All-Bee First Team selection in 2012 and 2013, while being named Clovis West’s “Dream Team Captain”.
At Clovis West, Huls led the Golden Eagles to the 2013 Tri-River Athletic Conference doubles championship and was a three-time Valley champion from 2011 to 2013, amassing a total singles regular season record of 30-4 over his three-year varsity career.
According to a quote from Fresno State Athletics, Mortera is excited to add Huls to his coaching staff.
“Patrick is a terrific addition to our staff,”Mortera said. “His passion for Fresno State and love of the game is going to have a very positive impact on our young team. We are excited to have him join us.”
