Hundreds of students exited the Henry Madden Library Friday morning, when a fire alarm sounded.
Students stood outside the library doors for approximately 30 minutes while firefighters investigated.
Around 12:05 p.m., Fresno State Traffic Officer Door cleared them to go in.
“Right now, it’s just a false alarm. We just gotta make sure everything’s clear before students go in,” Door said.
Student assistant in the library’s Resource Sharing and Music and Media departments Elton Chong said this was his first time experiencing an event like this.
“I think two thoughts arose. I think there was an actual fire or there was actually an active shooter trying to pull the fire alarm and get people out here to shoot us,” Chong said.
He said he probably won’t know the full story of what happened until his next shift.
In the meantime, students are free to resume studying in the library immediately.
