The Collegian has elected its leadership for the spring 2019 semester.
On Thursday, Seth Casey was chosen by faculty and staff of the media, communication and journalism department to lead the student newspaper as editor in chief in the spring. He served in the fall as managing editor. Following Casey’s appointment, Sports Editor Michael Ford was selected from a pool of applicants to serve as managing editor alongside Casey.
The managing editor and editor in chief will interview and offer various editorial positions to applicants who submitted applications for the spring semester. Deadline to apply was Nov. 28.
Casey and Ford are both transfer students from Fresno City College and both worked on The Rampage student newspaper there. Ford was a reporter in fall 2015 and then moved into the sports editor position for the spring and fall of 2016. He began working at The Collegian in Fall 2017 as a reporter for two semesters. In fall 2018, he became sports editor.
I have accepted the offer to be @TheCollegian managing editor for the Spring 2019 semester, my final at Fresno State. I am excited to be given the opportunity. I look forward to working with the next Editor-in-chief Seth Casey to put together a new staff and have a great semester

Ford also works part time as a sports student writer and agate clerk for The Fresno Bee. Formerly, he freelanced for the Kingsburg Recorder and Selma Enterprise newspapers. In summer 2018, he interned at The Clovis Roundup.
Casey worked one semester at The Rampage as a reporter before transferring to Fresno State. In fall 2018, he joined The Collegian staff as managing editor, where he gained familiarity and an understanding of Fresno State.
I am honored to accept the position of Editor in Chief of @TheCollegian newspaper. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor and friend in @cres_guez to prepare me for this opportunity.
I am looking forward to embarking on this journey with all of you!

“I am proud and honored to assume the role of editor in chief at The Collegian newspaper, and will do all I can to provide information that best serves the students, staff and faculty and community on and around Fresno State,” Casey said.
As editor in chief, Casey encourages readers to voice their thoughts with him and the staff to improve the student newspaper’s operation.
“Though I occupy this desk, this is your newspaper,” Casey said.
The Collegian is funded by student fees and advertising sales. In February, The Collegian celebrated its 96th year of news reporting at Fresno State.
Cresencio Rodriguez-Delgado has served as editor in chief of The Collegian for three semesters and as managing editor for one semester. He will leave his leadership role at the end of the fall semester.
