Former Bulldogs athletic director Jim Bartko has returned to the University of Oregon.

The news was confirmed by Oregon State spokesman Jimmy Stanton, who said Bartko is working in the university’s advancement office.

And according to spokeswoman Tobin Klinger, “actually, he has been hired by advancement to develop prospects in California and work with school and college fundraisers to assess and build a portfolio of prospects/donors.”

Klinger further added: “While Jim has a deeply-rooted base and experience in athletics, this is a targeted effort to grow the number of donors and volunteers who are passionately supportive of our academic goals both at an institutional and unit level.”

Bartko was an executive senior associate athletic director at Oregon State before being hired as Fresno State’s athletic director in 2014. In Jan. 2017, he publicly revealed in a Fresno Bee story that he had been sexually abused while a child by a Catholic priest.

In November 2017, Bartko abruptly resigned amid widespread speculation on and off campus.

Early this summer, Bartko revealed he had filed a multimillion dollar claim against Fresno State officials including university president Dr. Joseph I. Castro, Vice President for Administrative Services Debbie Astone and associate athletic director Steven Robertello.

Bartko alleged that after the Fresno Bee story was printed, Castro, Astone and Robertello worked together to force him out of his job. Bartko also claimed that he was forced to resign on Nov. 6, 2017. The university denied Bartko’s version of events.
