The Fresno State Barking Bulldogs Debate Team won a multitude of awards at last weekend’s Western JV and Novice Policy Debate Championship.
The debate tournament was hosted by the Fresno State Debate Club and the Fresno State Barking Bulldogs Debate Team. It was their first time hosting in 16 years. Schools from California, Utah and Arizona participated.
After winning five out of six preliminary rounds in the novice division, Fresno State students Nick Mirza and Aaron Lowe proceeded to the elimination round, where they received third place.
For the speaker awards in the novice division, Aaron Lowe won first place, Nick Mirza won second place and fellow student Jordan Cody won third place. Jordan Cody and Dalton Scrivner received fourth place.
Faris Elias and Vishal Boughen also won three out of six preliminary rounds.
“I am very proud of all of our Barking Bulldogs debaters for their dedication and hard work,” said Tom Boroujeni, Fresno State director of debate. “Because of their dedication, Fresno State has become a national contender in debate.”
