Last year, the “Bold New U” referendum failed. It did not fail for a “plethora” of reasons as a few voices have implied, it failed for two main reasons: lack of student involvement and misinformation regarding the project.
The New Student Union project is being worked on by students, and student leadership has made it a priority to inform the student body of all the facts.
Fresno State students need a New Student Union because our campus is impacted. The USU was originally built to accommodate 10,000 students, and we are now approaching 25,000 students. The space we have is insufficient for students’ needs. Students need more spaces where they can have access to computers, printers, power outlets, and quiet study spaces.
The library and current USU facilities are not sufficient enough for our student population.
As the student body is growing, we need our campus to grow with us. We need to let our voices be heard. We need a new USU, for us and for future Bulldogs.

One thing to be considered in this discussion: the existing USU is on the CSU’s seismic watch list. While it is currently not a high priority for replacement, it could move up the priority list as time marches on.
