Dr. Michelle DenBeste was named the dean of the College of Social Sciences on Thursday after serving two years on an interim basis.
During the two years as interim dean, the College of Social Sciences launched a new geography and city and regional planning program, a more expansive American Indian studies program, an Institute for Leadership and Public Policy and revived the Fresno State Gospel Choir, according to a university news release.
Last semester, DenBeste helped welcome the newly reconstructed social sciences quad.
Fresno State Provost Lynnette Zelezny offered a statement on the DenBeste’s appointment: “She’s a strong leader who will build a vibrant vision with the faculty, staff and students of the college to leverage its pride points,” she said.
DenBeste previously taught history courses at the university until she became interim dean in 2015.
