Fresno State history lecturer Dr. Lars Maischak will not be teaching on campus for the fall 2017 semester, said university president Dr. Joseph Castro in an email.

After a four-month deliberation between university administration, Maischak will be converting history courses 11 and 12 to an online format, but not facilitating the courses, fulfilling his unit requirement per the collective bargaining agreement.

Maischak was placed on paid leave in April for the remainder of the semester after his tweets about President Trump caused a FBI investigation. Maischak’s courses were temporarily canceled until other staff members were assigned to finish teaching the courses.

Maischak said the assignment given is “punitive,” not allowed under contract and may file a grievance over the given assignment.

A few of his controversial tweets that were publicized by Breitbart.com state in their entirety, “To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better,” and ­“Justice = The execution of two Republicans for each deported immigrant.”

The reassignment of the construction of online courses will conclude on Dec. 20. However Maischak’s contract extends to May 2018. He said he expects his contract to be renewed.
