On May 3, University Communications emailed the Fresno State community that a student had been diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis.
The student, who is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, is being treated. The student lives off campus. Members of the Greek community who visited the fraternity house within the last month were urged to take a antibiotic pill that evening.
The Student Health and Counseling Center and the Fresno County Department of Public Health are working on making sure students are aware of available resources, if needed.
Students who feel the symptoms of the illness are urged to visit the Health Center or their medical provider in order to receive proper care.
Symptoms include: high fever, severe headache and stiffness of the neck.
