Fresno State alumnus Anthony Marquez, the Los Angeles bureau chief for the Associated Press, died Feb. 9 due to complications from cancer at 55.
The university will honor Marquez by posting the campus flags at half-staff on Thursday.
Marquez graduated in 1985 with a degree in mass communication and journalism. While in school, he wrote for The Collegian and its supplement, La Voz de Aztlan, the Chicano student newspaper. He was the managing editor of The Collegian.
Marquez later earned a master’s degree at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, and worked as a journalist for three decades.
