Fresno State professor Dr. Iran Barrera has been appointed chair of the cultural competence education track for the National Social Work Council.
Barrera’s work for the national nonprofit association will promote cultural competence and encourage dialogue, exploration and identification of new directions for curriculum, leadership, research and pedagogy.
The council was founded in 1952 and represents more than 2,500 members as well as graduate and undergraduate programs. It is the only accrediting agency for social work education programs in the United States.
