The Fresno State volleyball team finished the weekend on a high note when it got its first conference win of the season, defeating the New Mexico Lobos 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell is proud of the way the team played, especially following Thursday night’s loss after allowing UNLV to come back after being up 2-0.
“I liked the way we played on Thursday. We played against a real good, solid team in UNLV,” Netherby-Sewell said. “They had nobody taking them to five [sets]. It was a missed opportunity for sure, but we still played well. We’re getting better defensively. Today, we stuck with our game plan and just kept chipping away at them. I like that our defense is getting better. Our offense looks pretty good.”
Senior libero Maggie Eppright believes preparation made the biggest difference in the game.
“I think we really focused in practice on what we actually needed to get better at,” Eppright said. “We were forced to execute before we were allowed to move on from anything. I think you saw the transition into games that we were able to do this week.”
The Bulldogs will look to carry that success into next week as they hit the road for two more conference matches. The team will take on San Diego State on Thursday and then travel to face Nevada on Saturday.
“We can play at a really high level,” Netherby-Sewell said. “We just have to stay with it.”
