The Fresno State baseball team swept the Mountain West weekly awards with sophomore pitcher Ricky Thomas and senior outfielder Brody Russell earning Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week honors, respectively, as announced by the league Monday.

Thomas is fresh off a solid performance Friday night against Air Force in which he recorded eight strikeouts while only allowing two hits in his seven innings on the mound. The sophomore left-handed pitcher has also recorded at least five strikeouts in all seven starts this season.

Russell, on the other hand, recorded nine hits in his 14 at-bats last week, including three doubles, six runs scored and four RBIs. The senior’s 9-for-14 performance marks a .643 batting average, which improved his season average to .413, second in the Mountain West.

“We are halfway through the season and are starting to round into midseason form,” said head coach Mike Batesole. “We have pitched well, and our bullpen has been reliable. It is nice to continue to get noticed by the conference, but we have a long way to go. This weekend at New Mexico, we have to be on the top of our game for one of the biggest road weekends of 2016.”
