Fresno State led the entire time and controlled the pace in Friday’s 66-62 Senior Night win over Utah State. The win marked the sixth win in the past seven games for the Bulldogs.

“Anytime the season ends, it’s nice to end it on a win and in second place,” Fresno State head coach Jaime White said. “I feel really good about our season. If you remember the preseason it wasn’t very good but we were improving each game playing really good teams. I feel really good about how far we’ve come and how much we’ve learned. I’m excited for the tournament!”

Early in the second half, the ‘Dogs went on a 13-4 run to get out to an 11-point lead — their largest of the game. But the Aggies battled back to get within one inside of two minutes after a jump shot from freshman guard Rachel Brewster.

Senior Toni Smith increased Fresno State’s lead three with a pair of free throws and two possessions later, Furr got fouled, went to the free-throw line and connected on 1-of-2 attempts to seal the game.

Four players posted double figures led by Furr’s team-high 15 points in her final home game. Sophomore Bego Faz Davalos and seniors Moriah Faulk and Smith contributed 12 each.

Freshman guards Katie Toole and Brewster led the Aggies in scoring with 21 and 12 points each.

Up next for the ‘Dogs is the Mountain West Tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The second-seeded ‘Dogs have a first-round bye and play their first game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the opening-round game between No. 7 Utah State and No. 11 Nevada.

“I think we’re very calm about the tournament,” Smith said. “We have a lot veterans on this team and we know how it feels to be in the tournament. I feel like we’re going to go in there very confident and ready to play.”
