When it comes to supporting undocumented students there are many options, both within the campus and outside sources.

Fresno State’s new Dream Outreach Center will help around 600 undocumented students.

The functions of the center will be divided between outreach and support services.

Outreach will help students with the application process before attending the university.

Support services will provide counseling, tutoring and other supplemental instruction to those students who are already enrolled. It will also assist students regarding immigration laws.

The university also provides information and assistance to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students through University Migrant Services.

DACA was signed as an executive order by President Barack Obama in 2012 and provides some relief to undocumented students by temporarily deferring deportation for those who are eligible. Those who meet the eligibility criteria receive a work permit and a Social Security number and with having to renew it every two years.

Raul Z. Moreno, Coordinator of the University Migrant Services, helped create the Education Leadership Foundation to assist undocumented students in the Central Valley. The foundation is not located on campus, but does assist students who attend Fresno State.

“Our mission is to promote educational opportunities and leadership development with respect and integrity” said Maria Lemus, program administrator at the Education and Leadership foundation.

Lemus said the foundation serves students who are in the Central Valley, many of whom attend Fresno State. It foundation was established in 2007 by Lemus and Moreno.
