The Fresno State football team lost two of its quarterbacks to season-ending injuries in a span of just over a week.

Bulldogs head coach Tim DeRuyter announced Sunday afternoon that junior quarterback Ford Childress will miss the remainder of the season due to an internal injury after undergoing surgery that morning.

Childress, a transfer from West Virginia, drew his first start of the year in Saturday’s 49-23 blowout loss to in-state rival San Jose State. In his lone start, the junior completed 19-of-32 passes for two touchdowns and one interception.

Childress traveled back with the team following Saturday’s Mountain West opener and was taken to the hospital on the team’s return to Fresno.

Freshman Chason Virgil is also out for the year after suffering a broken collarbone in last week’s loss to Utah. Throughout three games, Virgil was 31-of-56 passing for 298 yards, three touchdowns and three picks.

The ‘Dogs have three healthy quarterbacks remaining on the roster in sophomore Zack Greenlee, redshirt freshman Kilton Anderson and freshman Jesse Hanckel.

Greenlee was arrested last weekend for public intoxication and served his discipline by sitting out of the San Jose State game.

Fresno State (1-3, 0-1) will take on San Diego State (1-3) Saturday on the road with both teams riding a three-game losing streak.
