On Saturday, more than 3,000 students, parents, and guests came to Fresno State to preview the campus and attend informative events about aspects of the campus.

Phong Yang, associate director of outreach services, said the event had a good turnout and was comparable to the previous year’s Preview Day.

“Preview Day is an opportunity for students who have applied to get an overview of the campus,” Yang said. “Preview Day can also reassure students that they made the right decision by picking Fresno State and highlights what the school has to offer.”

The event featured 100 student organizations, 30 of them being academic organizations that were in the academic fair. Students were able to speak and meet with members of various organizations to see what each organization had to offer.

Francisco Mojarro, a member of Lambda Theta Phi, said, “It’s important for new students to see and have a feel of the school they have enrolled into. It’s also a good way for new students to meet each other and faculty.”

Artemio Rubio, a volunteer for California Student Opportunity and Access Program, said, “It’s turning out to be a really good event. We are starting to see a lot of young faces. Hopefully this could be a prelude to what Dog Days could be.”

Hector Mendoza and his family came to Fresno State from Modesto for Preview Day. They said it was an interesting event, and got a lot of information that made it worth the trip.

“I enrolled into Fresno State for computer engineering to develop my career,” Mendoza said. “Ever since I took a campus tour, I liked the school. I’ve seen other schools, and this is the one I liked.”

“The event started in the Save Mart Center, where those who attended were able to hear from Fresno State President Joseph Castro, Vice President for Student Affairs Frank Lamas, Provost Lynnette Zelezny, among others before being dismissed by their majors,” Yang said. “They got to hear from the people in their major, and who their prospective dean would be.”

Once they finished, they were able to take tours of the campus and the Rec Center and attend workshops on various subjects such as financial aid and admissions.

“I’m happy with the event. “This is the largest field event for Fresno State,” Yang said.
