The Fresno State women’s tennis team beat the Idaho Vandals 5-2 on Sunday at the Wathen Tennis Center. It is the Bulldogs’ sixth win in a row, matching their season high.
Fresno State’s Maiar and Rana Sherif Ahmed defeated Idaho’s Emmie Marx and Galine Bykova in doubles play 6-2. Bulldog seniors Anneka and Sophie Watts beat Sophie Vickers and Belen Barcenilla 6-2 to seal the doubles point for the ‘Dogs.
In singles play, Fresno State won four out of six matches. Sophie Watts, Rana Sherif Ahmed, Anneka Watts and Tanya Murtagh won their bouts, while Bykova and Lucia Badillos won for the Vandals.
Sophie Watts, the 45th-ranked player in the nation, defeated Marx 6-4, 7-5. Rana Sherif Ahmed beat Rita Bermudez 6-3, 7-6 (10-2). On Court 4, Anneka Watts defeated Vickers 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Murtagh beat Barencilla 6-1, 6-0.
Fresno State (12-3), which entered the game ranked No. 42, will visit the University of Denver on March 27.
