For the moment, the buzz is back at Beiden Field for the Fresno State baseball team.

After starting the season with three straight wins, then losing five in a row, the Bulldogs extended their latest winning streak to four with a 6-2 win over the Sacramento State Hornets Tuesday night at Beiden Field.

The Bulldogs swarmed the Hornets early with five runs, including Nick Warren’s first career home run, which gave the Bulldogs a 5-0 lead after four innings.

“It felt good. The team put us in a great position. We got a lot of pitches out of the pitcher, and we took advantage of it,” said the freshman out of Saugus High School. “We have great leaders on the team. We have a lot of guys leading by example, so we go out there every day and put it all on the line for them. We have a good thing going.”

Right hander Tim Borst also took the Hornets down quickly with five strikeouts in the first three innings. The junior pitched five innings total and allowed two hits.

Freshman Anthony Arias made his debut on the mound in the sixth inning and followed Borst’s performance with three scoreless innings.

“Arias sat all of last season because he had Tommy John surgery, and he threw like a veteran. That was great stuff,” said Fresno State head coach Mike Batesole. “He could end up being in our rotation before the year is over.”

Senior third baseman Manny Argomaniz contributed with a solo home run over the left-field fence in the sixth inning, and Taylor Tempel chipped in with a two-run single in the second.

With Rickey Ramirez on the mound to close it out for the ‘Dogs, Sacramento State pinch hitter P.J. Floyd smashed a two-run triple to close the gap to 6-2. But the Hornets didn’t have anything more to add.

The Bulldogs accounted for nine hits in the game while limiting the Hornets to six.

“It’s just about consistency now,” Warren said. “Our pitchers are doing great. Our hitters are doing great. We just have to stay on it, and everything will be good.”
