Jann Klose a three-time recipient of The Independent Music Award, dropped by the Tower District’s Mia Cuppa Café Sunday night to serenade folk lovers with an acoustic set of songs from his “Mosaic” and “Reverie” albums as well as some new songs he’s working to produce this upcoming year.

Organizing the evening’s show, Steve Ono of Ono Muse Productions and a member of the Fresno Folklore Society, said the show is a treat for anyone wanting to listen to some really good tunes.

“I got a call from [Klose’s] publicist in New York,” Ono said. “I said yes, and Jann dropped by last Thursday to check us out.”

Strumming his Martin guitar, Klose brought bright folky-pop songs to the night’s performance.

“I like the warmth and feel an acoustic guitar,” Klose said. “The acoustic guitar is the original workhorse of the folk musician.”

Usually having a band accompanying him, Klose said that enjoys both the band and solo shows.

Klose’s audience for the night was warm and inviting, often participating in Klose’s songs by singing, clapping and harmonizing.

One of Klose’s songs was a cover from folk singer Pete Seeger, in which Klose sang in both German and English, an important part of Klose’s roots and culture as a child.

Christi McLaughlin, who attended the eveneing’s show, said she was impressed by Klose’s acapela vocals and range.

“He was compelling,” McLaughlin said. “He’s a very talented man. Me and my husband enjoyed it very much.”

Klose will be playing with a full band on Friday, in Los Angeles and is working to record a new album with musician Garry Lucas this next year.
