Fresno State’s University Police Department sent a statement to the campus community Friday refuting a Tuesday report from a woman who claimed three men sexually assaulted her near the Residence Dining Hall.
Students and staff received an email from University Police late Friday night saying an investigation revealed that the assault did not occur anywhere on or near campus.
The original report, sent by the department to students and staff in an email, alleged a sexual assault by three black men on a woman occurred around midnight Nov. 5. The assault was reported to police last Monday afternoon.
In light of the report, Fresno State President Joseph Castro sent out an email to the campus community Friday afternoon highlighting the campus safety measures.
Those measures include:
— An around-the-clock video security system monitored by University Police Department staff.
— An anonymous tip system called TipNow that allows students to contact police regarding crimes or concerns. Its number is (559) 664-3204.
— Emergency phones located in classrooms, offices and blue-lit areas throughout campus.
— Public safety assistants in the Henry Madden Library and University Courtyard with direct radio contact to campus police.
— A 24-hour security escort service available at (559) 278-8400.
— Rape Aggression Defense System courses taught by University Police instructors and offered to students, faculty and the public twice a semester.
— Presentations organized by the University Police Department.
