Halloween at Hobb’s Grove has returned once again to celebrate the season, starting today.
Celebrating its 15th year, the Halloween attraction is aimed toward kids, teenagers and adults alike.
The attraction was opened in 1999 by Reedley local Lore Callahan. Callahan and a few other Hobb’s Grove crewmembers used to work at Satterstrom’s Pumpkin Festival in Reedley. Callahan used to work in the pumpkin patch area of the festival when she expanded her haunted entertainment ideas into what would become Hobb’s Grove, a spokesman said.
The crewmembers of Hobb’s Grove are made up of Central Valley students and residents who enjoy getting into their characters at the attraction every year.
“This is the time of year that our crew gets to be who they really are,” a Hobb’s Grove spokesman said. “Every creepy creature is looking for a killer scare. Everyone has their favorite scare story.”
Some of the attractions include a haunted forest, haunted house and a hayride that open as soon as the sun sets around 6:40 p.m. For those not looking for a scare, but would still like to enjoy the festivities, the venue also has pumpkins available for sale at the Pumpkin Grove area during the last two weekends of October. In addition, Hobb’s Grove has fire pits to keep warm by, peddlers, live music and concessions.
Victoria Starks, a Fresno State senior and Central Valley native, said she has been to Hobb’s Grove a couple times and looks forward to visiting it again this season.
“I love people getting dressed up,” Starks said. “I love scary movies, so Halloween is so much fun.”
Although masks are not allowed inside, except on Halloween night, Hobb’s Grove encourages people to wear costumes on any day during its entire run.
Hobb’s Grove is located at 14265 E. Goodfellow in Sanger, California. The attraction begins today and will end on Nov. 1. Parking is available at 5:30 p.m.
