It’s 6 p.m., you missed dinner because you had to meet your friend at school to study for that tough biology exam in the morning, what do you do? Well, for two Fresno State students and owners of Hungry Dog Delivery, they would hope that you place an order with them so you can study and eat without having to leave campus.
Sophomore Sara Remus and freshman Cody Stheidt are the founders of Hungry Dog Delivery, a service that provides food delivery from local restaurants and fast food around the Fresno area to students. Their business started in early November last year when Stheidt was struggling to find a job that would balance his school schedule and Remus got the idea to deliver food to the elderly.
Hungry Dog Delivery really took off when Remus, a public relations student, made social media accounts and their website all in one night. After class, the pair was flooded with messages and notifications on their cell phones from potential customers, some even asked if they were a legitimate business.
“I looked at Cody and he looked at me, wondering what we were going to do with all these orders we got,” said Remus.
The two eventually ironed out the details into making their business efficient and reliable for customers. For right now, Stheidt handles all the deliveries, while Remus works on the business and marketing strategies. They charge a flat $5 in addition to the cost of the food purchase and an extra $1 if a credit card is used. Remus said that they want to keep the fee as cheap as possible for college students and young adults along with occasionally giving discounts specifically for Fresno State students.
Samuel Orozco, an undeclared freshman said that Hungry Dog would be great for students like himself who would not want to leave campus just to grab something to eat.
“Yeah, I think that I would use it if I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to go get food,” Orozco said.
Hungry Dog Delivery delivers Monday through Thursday 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. In addition to food, it also provides grocery-shopping delivery for those who are unable to make it to the supermarket for whatever reason.
These “hungry dogs” are also looking forward to the near future with adding on more employees for delivery services and after graduate school, they hope to expand into a franchise catering to other areas in the Central Valley.
You can find them on Facebook at facebook.com/HungryDogDelivery and on Twitter @HungryDogFresno. Their website hungrydogdeliveryservice.webs.com also provides a delivery area boundary map for more specific pricing in the greater Fresno-Clovis area and menu ideas to choose from.
