The Fresno State men’s basketball team lost its second straight road game Saturday to the University of the Pacific Tigers 86-77.
“We’re going to play in some tough environments this year, and we have to do a better job of playing in those places,” Fresno State coach Rodney Terry told reporters.
Senior Tyler Johnson led the team offensively with 25 points and shared the defensive lead with Alex Davis (six rebounds apiece).
Cezar Guerrero (17) and Marvelle Harris (19) also scored in double-digits for Fresno State.
The Tigers (4-0) were led by four double-digit scorers. Senior Andrew Bock led the team with 19 points, and Sama Taku and Khalil Kelley had 16 points each. Tony Gill, the 6-feet-8-inch forward, had 12 points.
Kelley added 12 rebounds to his line for a double-double in the contest.
The game was close in the beginning, as neither team led by more than four points in the first half. Tied at 23, Taku connected on a layup to give Pacific the 25-23 lead.
Afterward, Harris landed a 3-point jumper to give the Bulldogs a one-point lead, but Gill sunk a layup of his own to retake the lead for the Tigers with 2:35 remaining.
Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the half, and Pacific led 27-26 at the intermission.
The Tigers were able to pull away from the Bulldogs in the second half. Gill’s 3-pointer and Taku’s two free throws game Pacific a six-point lead. Fresno State trimmed the lead at times but never took its own as Bock scored 17 of his 19 total points in the frame.
Tonight, the Bulldogs return to the Save Mart Center to host the San Diego Christian Hawks at 7 p.m.
