Fresno State wide receiver Victor Dean and defensive back Davon Dunn were dismissed from the football team on Monday due to” violations of athletic department policy”, according to a university release issued Tuesday afternoon.
According the release, Dean and Dunn were informed of their dismissals Monday morning.
The release said the university would not comment further on the matter.
Both players were previously suspended by the university for violation of athletics department policy heading into Fresno State’s season-opening home win against Weber State last season.
Dean, a 6-foot-6 junior, was part of a dense wide receiver core that is expected to play a significant role in the Bulldogs’ offense next season with the return of quarterback Derek Carr and the departure of senior Robbie Rouse, the team’s leading rusher last season.
Dean, one of Bulldogs’ deep-ball threats last season, finished his sophomore season fifth on the team in receptions (30) and earned four consecutive starts in October and November. He finished with 30 catches for 389 yards and two touchdowns.
Dean’s season ended with a broken leg in the first half of Âhis last start of the season — a Nov. 3 Mountain West Conference game at Hawaii.
Dunn played in 11 games last season and also served as a return specialist.

I am not surprised at all and glad it happened. Rules are rules.

This is major Division I-A college football, soon to be on a national stage. You can’t go out and make dumb mistakes like this. These guys know the rules and what it takes to be a student athlete; whatever mistakes they made, they must have known this would be the consequence. C’mon, Bulldogs, let’s use common sense. In the MWC you have to be better than everyone else.
