Men’s tennis draws No. 5-seed in MWC Tournament
The Fresno State men’s tennis team will enter its inaugural Mountain West Conference Tournament as the fifth seed.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season on the road — and on a sour note. UNLV, seeded third in the conference tournament and ranked 64th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, swept the Bulldogs 7-0 in Saturday’s regular-season finale.
Fresno State (7-16, 2-4 MWC) will play No. 4-seeded New Mexico (12-12, 3-3 MWC) in the first round of the tournament Thursday at 10 a.m. in Colorado Springs, Colo.
New Mexico swept the Bulldogs 7-0 on April 7 at home.
San Diego State, which finished the season 18-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in Mountain West play, earned the tournament’s top seed and a first-round bye.
Lacrosse finishes season 2-13
The Fresno State lacrosse team dropped its season finale against USC, 19-1, on Saturday.
The Trojans outshot the Bulldogs 29-7 in what was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Kara Concheck, who finished the season with team-high 22 goals and 28 points, scored the sole goal for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State finished the 2013 season 2-13 overall and 0-8 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation under second-year coach Jessica Pausewang.
Men’s golf finishes ninth of 11th in Winchester Classic
It was the tournament’s reigning champion a year ago.
The Fresno State men’s gold team, which placed first in the Winchester Classic a year ago, found itself on the opposite end this season: ninth of 11th place to be exact.
The Bulldogs fired their lowest round of the three-day tournament on Sunday and made 15 birdies to finish at 33-over par, 897 (302, 299, 296).
Senior Rufie Fessler led the Bulldogs in the tournament, finishing 3-over par, 219 (71-74-74), and tied for 11th place.
The Bulldogs next head to Tuscon, Ariz. to compete in the May 3-5 Mountain West Championship.
