In their first game at Beiden Field since March 17, the Bulldogs earned their seventh win of the season in a 4-3 victory over the Pacific Tigers.
It was revenge for Fresno State, which started its most recent road trip with an 11-4 loss at the Tigers’ home field.
It was a joint effort for the Bulldog pitching staff on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Jordan Brink got the start, but would only put in one inning of work before Coach Mike Batesole began to get the bullpen involved.
Seven pitchers took the mound in total ”” none of them would go over 1 2/3 innings.
The bullpen had one of their stronger outings of the season, giving up only one run through seven innings.
However, things got a little shaky for junior Tyler Linehan at the top of the ninth when the Tigers attempted to rally after loading the bases.
With two outs, left fielder Brett Sullivan singled right to bring home two runs to pull Pacific within one.
Linehan would prevail though, striking out designated hitter Jason Taasaas to earn his first save and clinch the win for the Bulldogs. Linehan’s save is only the second of the year for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Garrett Mundell earned the other save on Feb. 15 against UC Santa Barbara ”” the Bulldogs’ first game of the season.
Offensively, the Bulldogs provided just enough support, with one more run and one more hit than the Tigers ”” there were four runs and seven hits for Fresno State.
Sophomore Taylor Tempel was the only Bulldog to have a multi-hit game on Tuesday. The Clovis native hit 2-for-4 with one double.
The Bulldogs (7-18) will return to conference play when continue their home stand this weekend with a three-game series against the UNLV (20-8).
