The Fresno State women’s basketball team will enter its last home game tomorrow against the UNLV Rebels. This meeting will be the second time the two have faced off this season. The first contest ended in a 72-66 road win for the Bulldogs.
This game will also mark the last time the Bulldogs take the floor at the Save Mart Center for the 2012-13 basketball season.
It will also be the last time seniors Rosie Moult and Jeanna Furst — who have won three Western Athletic Conference Championships — will play before the home crowd.
“It’s going to be very emotional. I’m going to be very sad because it’s the last time playing in front of everyone,” Moult said.
“We have to channel that emotion into playing hard and being focused on the court.”
Furst and Moult will be honored tomorrow for Senior Night for their hard work and dedication over the last four years.
That hard work has led the duo in becoming the most winning senior class in Fresno State women’s basketball history.
Over the four years Moult and Furst have been at Fresno State, they have won an impressive 100 games.
“It’s a good feeling to have won, but it’s not just us that has helped us win, we have had good teams that we’ve played on,” Moult said. “It’s a good feeling, and we have put in a lot of effort.”
Moult became Fresno State’s all-timeleader in steals last Saturday during the Bulldogs’ 80-55 win at Air Force. Moult is currently ranked 11th in the nation with 3.04 3-pointers per game, helping the Bulldogs’team record of 7.2 3s per game.
Even though the Bulldogs have locked up the second seed in the Reese’s Mountain West Tournament, they will be focused on the task at hand tomorrow: beating UNLV.
“We’re excited about finishing out the regular season with a win,” Furst said.
“I think we know it’s important to finish up conference strong.” Fresno State coach Raegan Pebley said. “UNLV is a team that did have a second -half lead against us, we don’t think we can look past anyone.”
In the last outing against UNLV, the Bulldogs were down by five points in the second half after having the score tied up at 32 during halftime.
Furst and Moult are excited and believe it will be an emotional game for them.
“We will miss the fans, they are great. The band is great. The whole atmosphere, it’s our home court. It’s our house and we must protect that.” Said Furst.
“I will miss the atmosphere the most.” added Moult.
“Back in Australia we don’t get crowds like this, the fan support at Fresno State has been great, and I’m definitely going to miss it.
The Bulldogs tip-off tomorrow against the Lady Rebels at 2 p.m., marking the 24th meeting between the two teams.
