Fresno State women’s basketball player Ki-Ki Moore, the team’s leading scorer who is averaging 16.8 points this season, will not return to the program for her senior season.
Moore, a Washington State transfer, has elected to forgo her final year of NCAA elegibilty because of lingering injuries and constant pain, according to a release by the athletics department.
“I feel like it is never easy leaving something so special when the team and coaches are supporting you, but that’s how bad the pain was. It is the best decision for me,” Moore said in a statement released on Friday.
“I would like to thank Fresno State for giving me a second chance when I transferred here. I want to thank my teammates for supporting and having open arms for me when I decided to come here.ÂI want to thank the fans for all the support of the program through our ups and downs and for always being there for us. I want to thank Kelli [Eberlein] for keeping me healthy and for showing concern for everyone, not just me.”
Moore — last season’s Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year — will graduate this spring with a bachelor’s degree in communications, according to the release.
In the last two seasons at Fresno State, Moore has scored 1,040 points in 62 games. She leads the team in rebounding (6.2 rebounds per game) and steals (3.1) as well.
Fresno State will face UNLV in the regular-season finale on ÂSaturday at the Save Mart Center at 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs (20-8, 12-3 MWC) have locked the No.2 seed in the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships.
“Now, I look forward to just finishing off the conference season strong and go into the Mountain West tournament playing with the same confidence we’ve been playing with all season, but not look past any team and try to get our first Mountain West championship,” Moore said.
