The Fresno State lacrosse team dropped its home opener against Cal 16-8 at Bulldog Stadium on Tuesday.
Kara Concheck led the Bulldogs with three goals and two assists and finished the match with five points.
Freshman Anjelica Fuccillo — who leads the team with 11 goals this season — scored two goals.
Fresno State also received goals from Natalie Harrington, Paula Badall and Lauren Natale.
The Golden Bears got off to a fast start, grabbing a 5-1 lead 12 minutes into regulation. Cal extended its lead to 9-4 at the half.
“We keep pushing it and we are so close in games,” said Fresno State coach Jessica Pausewang. “It is really just us completing those 60 minutes that’s going to make a difference.”
Attackers Alexa Rozelle and Megan Takacs led the Golden Bears with four goals apiece.
The Bulldogs fell to 1-4 overall, and are 0-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Fresno State goalkeeper Katie Wilbur recorded six saves.
Fresno State will play five consecu- tive games on the road (four of those games will be played in the East Coast), starting with Albany on Thursday.
The Bulldogs next home game is on April 6 against San Diego State in MPSF play to kick off a three-game home stretcth.
Fresno State will also host Oregon on April 10 and UC Davis on April 13.
