Fresno State (17-7, 9-2 MWC) vs. Nevada (6-17, 1-9 MWC): tonight at 7 p.m. at the Save Mart Center
Radio: ESPN2 790 AM
The Lowdown
Fresno State faces the struggling Wolf Pack tonight at the Save Mart Center with the end of the regular season slowly nearing its end.
Last-place Nevada has lost nine conference games in a row. A 67-54 win against Air Force in its conference opener was the Wolf Pack’s only Mountain West victory.
Still in the hunt, but in need of help
The Bulldogs are racing San Diego State for first place at the Mountain West finish line.
Right now, they’re trailing. The Bulldogs’ only loss at home this season was to the Aztecs in a 74-49 drubbing that gave San Diego State the lead for first place in the conference standings.
The loss also snapped what at the time was both a 20-game win streak at the Save Mart Center and the nation’s third-longest active home-win streak.
The road to winning a share of Mountain West regular season championship goes like this: Fresno State must win out and hope that San Diego State (19-5, 10-1 MWC) loses at least one of its last five games.
The Aztecs are currently on a 10-game win streak.
Record watch
Junior Rosie Moult is two steals away from tying the all-time school record for careers steals
Moult enters the tonight’s game with 245 steals, two shy of former Bulldog Jaleesa Ross’ record. Fresno State leads the Mountain West in steals (12.9 steals per game) and ranks fifth nationally.
Did you see…
…. Fresno State’s 61-47 home win against Wyoming on Saturday.
In their first meeting in January, the Bulldogs were bested by Wyoming on the road through what has seemed to have been an Achilles’ heel for Fresno State all season long: rebounding.
How did things go for the Bulldogs this time around? Fresno State turned its weakness on its stomach by beating the Cowgirls (who lead the conference in defensive rebounds) at their own game.
Fresno State outrebounded the Cowgirls 37-33 en route to sweeping them in conference play. Rosie Moult led Fresno State with nine rebounds.
