Former Fresno State athletic trainer Ed Ferreira died Sunday morning, according to the Fresno State Athletic Training Education Program’s Facebook page. The cause of death is unknown. He was 64.
Ferreira worked as an athletic trainer at Fresno State for 28 seasons before retiring in 2008. Over the years, Ferreira has worked with thousands of student-athletes, student-trainers and colleagues.
When not working, Ferreira donated much of his time volunteering at The Well Community Church. His work there included a variety of mission projects. Ferreira also volunteered with the Poverello House and various organizations in the community.
Ferreira kept an active lifestyle, taking up cycling and enjoying the local bike trails on a regular basis.
He is survived by his wife Kelly, his two daughters Michelle Ferreira and Jeannie Davis, and one granddaughter Ashlynne Davis.
Details regarding a memorial service have not been made at this time but will be available in the near future.

Ed was a well respected Athletic Trainer, educator, mentor, colleague, and friend. All that knew him were touched in some way by his intelligence, personality, wit, and sense of humor. Ed, we will miss you, may you rest in peace.
