About 150 people attended the first of four organized “Occupy Fresno” events on Thursday, Oct. 6 in support of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement that has spread throughout the nation. The first protest took place in downtown Fresno in front of the Robert E. Coyle Federal Building, located on Tulare and O Streets. People voiced their opinions and concerns about education budget cuts, lack of universal healthcare and, overall, the current economic situation in the United States. Although not everyone present at the event agreed with the stance of the protesters, the crowd gained support from many drivers passing by, as well as some opposition. Police monitored the area occasionally, but no arrests were made during the event.
