Despite being eliminated from the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon, the Fresno State softball squad will head to its 30th NCAA Tournament.
Fresno State is the country’s only program to appear in every NCAA Tournament and will head to the Stanford Regional and face Nebraska at 3 p.m. Friday. The Cornhuskers finished the regular season with a 39-12 overall record, capping off the schedule with a four-game win streak. No. 15 Stanford is the regional’s top seed after a 38-15 campaign.
Fresno State was eliminated in the WAC Tournament in Saturday’s early game against eventual champion New Mexico State. Both the Aggies and the Bulldogs were the only two representatives from the conference to be selected into this year’s NCAA Tournament.
On Wednesday the All-WAC first and second teams were announced, as well as players and coaches of the year. Dual-threat pitcher and first baseman Michelle Moses and junior outfielder Andrea Ortega snagged first-team honors. Senior Nicole Angene and freshman Brooke Ortiz were selected as second-team All-WAC.
