Chief David Huerta of the Fresno State Police Department issued the following statement updating issuance of a Crime Alert on Sunday, May 15.:
On Sunday, May 15., a nonstudent reported to the Fresno State Police Department that he was robbed on-campus by three suspects. The man alleged he had been studying on campus and was returning to his parked car when assaulted.
Detectives noted inconsistencies in information provided, but issued a Crime Alert to the campus. On Tuesday, May 17., the individual admitted to falsely reporting a felony crime to our department.
The investigation remains open.
Pursuant to the Crime Alert (timely warning) requirements of the Clery Act, our department is obligated and will continue to issue Crime Alerts to the university community to report outstanding suspect information.
The Fresno State campus is a safe campus, and as Chief of Police I am proud of the professional commitment to safety and security the law enforcement officers and staff provide to the university community.
