Join Jeff Phillips and the Sierra Foothill Conservancy on a hike to the top of the McKenzie Table Mountain Preserve. The 6 mile hike is only a 20 minute drive from Fresno and offers stunning views of the San Joaquin River Gorge and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It’s also a great place for flying kites!
Hiking the McKenzie Table Preserve
Distance: 6 miles (add miles by continuing your hike down the other side of the table mountain into the San Joaquin River Gorge)
Difficulty Level: Easy/Moderate
When to go: Sierra Foothill Conservancy open house is on Friday, April 22. Carpool with friends or family.
Directions:
At Auberry Road you will see a gas station on your left. Using the gas station as your benchmark, note your mileage. Go slightly over 3 miles on Auberry Road. You will see some table mountain formations ahead. When you reach the 3 mile mark, slow down and prepare to stop.
The entrance to the preserve is on the left, where you will see a large corral and a gate. Drive in at the gate and park in the parking lot.
Additional Information: The Sierra Foothill Conservancy offers classes and hikes in orienteering, bird watching, natural history, bats and more.
Hikes and classes are open to the public. Open house is FREE! Classes are $10 for members, $5 for student members and $15 for non-members.
