Office hours help students
Have you ever notice that many students do not attend professors’ office hours? As a student, I can understand why many students do not attend office hours because of complicated schedules. But students should start taking advantage of their office hours.
Office hours allow professors to work along with students during a one-on-one discussion to answer their questions. Office hours give students the opportunity to get to know the professor better or allow the professor to know the students better. Professors may teach more than one course per semester; moreover, he/she has a hard time knowing all the students as individuals. In this situation, meeting with the professors in office hours can help the student know the expectations of the professor and get their questions answered.
Professors also suggest meeting in office hours rather than during class time because office hours are set aside to help students in providing additional support. Therefore, professors highly encourage students to attend and take advantage of the help that is provided. Students should meet with their professors throughout the semester because they can be a resource to help them succeed. They can also be a reference for a résumé. Professors have many connections with other faculty members and can suggest many options of courses that can further students in their major.
