Go University Express is a transit for college students. The shuttle service will take you from one California State University campus to the next. The best part is the price: For $35, Go University Express will take you from point A to point B. For $47, Go University Express will take you from point A to point B and back.
Go University Express routes are located on specific college campuses: Fresno State, UC Davis, UC Berkley, UC Merced, Cal State Northridge, USC, UCLA and San Francisco State.
According to its website, Go University Express will even take you on a specialized route if it is within 15 miles of a destination. The routes are expected to expand at least once a semester to accommodate more college students statewide.
If it sounds fishy, that’s because it is. I e-mailed Go University Express multiple times to inquire about expenses, destinations and ride fares and received no response. It is clear that the shuttle service has some logistics to work out.
Hopefully, the company can dot its “i’s” cross its “t’s” and get its “p’s” and “q’s” in order by mid-November.
You see, ladies and gentlemen, I am trying to go to the Boise game on Nov. 18, 2010.
And I have this whole plan figured out: Go University Express can drop me off at my best friend Jaymie’s house, 15 miles away from San Francisco State, for $25. I can wish her a happy birthday, hop on a one-way flight out of San Francisco International Airport to Boise for $156, watch the Broncos stomp the ‘Dogs, and hitch a free ride back with a few friends just in time for class on Monday.
Life would be grand. And my bank account would be $100 less affected than if I were to buy a round trip out of Fresno Yosemite Airport.
For less than the price of gas, a rail pass or an airplane ticket, college students could do, well, pretty much anything for pretty much nothing. Attend sporting events and concerts. Travel or shop. Visit friends. Go home for the holidays. College students could even move after graduation. What a steal. But one can only hope that Go University Express is the real deal.
