With senior receiver Devon Wylie out for the second consecutive game, it will be that much easier to game plan for the Bulldogs today when they face the Ole Miss Rebels. Wylie gave the ‘Dogs a true deep threat on offense.
As evidence last week against the Utah State Aggies, the passing game looked almost nonexistent attacking downfield with the absence of Wylie. Minus the 32-yard pass to Jamel Hamler, quarterback Ryan Colburn seemed to nickel and dime his throws, making the necessary throws to get a first down. The longest completion Colburn completed all night after the 32-yarder was for 14 yards to redshirt freshman A.J. Johnson.
With reports saying that sophomore receiver Rashad Evans will be out because of injuries, the Rebels should have an easy time covering the young and inexperienced receivers. Expect the Rebel safeties to shadow Hamler, the ‘Dogs most experienced receiver today in Oxford.
If the running game fails to emerge like it did against the Aggies, the young receiving corps will have to step up for Colburn to be successful throwing the ball. The receivers will make or break the ‘Dogs today.
