You may think that QB Ryan Colburn, he of four touchdown passes, was the reason the ‘Dogs won Saturday’s game. Or maybe you are convinced that the defense, with the way they stopped the Bearcats in their tracks from midway through the second quarter on, deserves praise for the win. Well, either way, you would be wrong.
I am the reason Fresno State defeated Cincinnati.
Wait, wait, before you leave hear me out. Let me finish my story.
As most of you may recall, the ‘Dogs were getting trounced by Cincinnati. The Bearcats were up 14-0 midway through the second quarter while the Bulldogs were languishing with 33 total yards (if memory serves correctly). After another Andrew Shapiro punt, my buddy and I decided that the team needed a momentum shift. We needed new mojo. So we decided to put on different shirts, those supplied most generously by Fresno State Dog Pound, free of charge.
The shift happened immediately.
Cincinnati went three-and-out. Colburn connected with RB Robbie Rouse for a 20-yard touchdown, and the rest was history.
So when you finish reading all of those game recaps praising the Fresno State football team, don’t forget who was really responsible for the victory””yours truly!
