One of the nation’s top Air Force ROTC awards has been presented to Cadet Geoffrey Viray, the cadet commander of California State University, Fresno’s much-honored AFROTC Detachment 35.
Viray, a nursing student from Lemoore, was awarded the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross for Achievement for 2010 as the top junior cadet in the southwestern United States. He is one of four junior cadets chosen for the honor this year from among all 144 AFROTC units on college campuses nationwide.
The Legion of Valor was founded in 1890 and now is an association of individuals who have been awarded the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross or the Air Force Cross.
Viray received his citation from Lt. Col. John Lussi, commander of AFROTC Detachment 35 at Fresno State and chair of the Department of Aerospace Studies within the Craig School of Business.
