Fresno State’s Gibson Farm Market is delaying the sale of sweet corn until mid-June because of a late corn season.
This year’s rains and cool spring pushed back sweet corn availability until June 20. Last year, corn went on sale June 1.
The market carries a variety of student-grown produce in addition to corn.
“We have cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines and apricots, green beans, summer squash and cucumbers arriving daily,” said Jennifer Sobieralski, manager of enterprise marketing and the farm market for the University Agricultural Laboratory. “We also have pesticide-free broccoli, baby greens and strawberries from our transition-organic fields.”
The market will host weekly wine tastings, ice cream tastings every second Tuesday of the month and a Summer Farm Festival on July 10.
The market is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, with more limited hours on the weekends. It is located on Chestnut and Barstow avenues.
