Fresno State’s first H1N1 vaccination clinic – with nasal spray vaccine only – will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the lower-floor Pavilion of the University Student Union. Use the south side door into the Pavilion to enter the line.
The clinic, sponsored by University Health and Psychological Services, is free and open to students, faculty and staff who are under 50 years old, not pregnant and in good health. A Fresno State ID card is required for vaccination.
The Health Center has received 600 doses of nasal spray vaccine (live virus) that will be administered by nursing students under the supervision of faculty until the supply runs out.
Requirements for who may receive the nasal spray vaccine are very strict. Please take note of the following:
People eligible for the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine are those:
- Under 50 years old
- In good health (see below)
People who should not get the nasal spray vaccine are those:
- 50 years old or older
- Pregnant
- Weakened immune system
- Long-term health problems such as heart, lung, kidney or liver disease; asthma, anemia, diabetes or other blood disorders
- Muscle or nerve disorders such as cerebral palsy
- Coming in close contact with a person with severely weakened immune system
- Children or adolescents on long-term aspirin therapy
Please note: If you have received a seasonal flu vaccine or any other vaccine within the past month, or plan to get any within the next month, you should not receive the H1N1 vaccine.
The Health Center does not have H1N1 shots available at this time. Shots have been ordered and are expected to arrive in December. Unfortunately, the vaccines arrive on campus on very short notice, so please watch Bulletin Board and Flu Central at www.csufresno.edu for the next clinic, which will be a shot clinic.
