David – I couldn’t have said it better myself.
People need to look into this stuff instead of injecting their own political ideology and rhetoric into it.

Keep in mind that our tuition does NOT go into one big bank account that pays for all construction projects, classes, and salaries. Athletics is a seperate corporation, so combining funds is impossible. Fresno State receives funds from tuition, state funding, federal funding, grants, donations, etc. Each type of funding has its own guidelines and restrictions on how it can be spent. For example, the new library was built through a combination of a state grant and a donation from Table Mountain Rancheria, while the USU and the Student Rec Ctr were built because students voted to pay for them with fee hikes.
To all student activists out there: I implore you to do your homework and learn how the system works before making demands that Welty could never possibly meet. If you really want to be vocal and represent the voices of students, then you need to at least take the time to back up your demands with facts and logic. Otherwise, you make us all look like fools.

Dr. Welty can do two very simple things… one of which he has already said No to, the other he would also say No to because the sharehold… I mean the Board of Trustees like dollars.
1) Rescind the pay raises he just voted for for himself and senior administration officials. The argument that their salary is well below the average is just asinine. time and time again we have been told this is a stat eof crisis and we need to band together and do what we must to weather this storm. Well, i see courses cut and some faculty being dismissed, but I am not seeing the upper echelons do much by way of sacrifice.
2) A very long shot I know, but you can take some of that WOEFULLY BLOATED athletic budget we seem to always have and sprinkle some of that financial rain into areas of EDUCATION that are being virtually eliminated by this crisis. I know that diverting athletic funds away from an athletic program and into education pursuits is radical, but now is the time for this kind of approach unless we would like to continue along this path.
