1. Play your game.
Pat Hill and the ’Dogs need to enforce their will and not worry too much about what their opponents are doing.
2. Force a turnover.
The Bulldogs’ defense hasn’t forced an interception since the season opener against UC Davis, ranking 115 among the 119 FBS teams.
3. Get healthy.
If safety Lorne Bell can get back in the lineup, he can match up well with slot receiver Greg Salas.
Player to watch:
Lorne Bell, free safety
When Fresno State runs:
Advantage Fresno State
The Warriors’ rush defense gave up 352 yards last week against Louisiana Tech. All the ’Dogs have to do is get Ryan Mathews the ball.
When Hawaii runs:
Advantage Fresno State
The Warriors leading rusher is injured quarterback Greg Alexander (37 carries for 103 yards).
When Fresno State passes:
Advantage Hawaii
This stat may be skewed by the Warriors’ terrible run defense, but they are only allowing 212 passing yards a game. Forget the stats, ’Dogs’ quarterback Ryan Colburn needs to eliminate turnovers before he is an advantage.
When Opponent passes:
Advantage Hawaii
Hawaii’s offense is a machine. Bryant Moniz will be just another small piece to keep things going.
Special teams:
Advantage Fresno State
Fresno State finally fixed its kickoff coverage against Cincinnati and played well on special teams. Saturday may be Kevin Goessling’s redemption for his misses against Hawaii in 2008.
