The Fresno State women̢۪s volleyball team had a great weekend going 2-0 with victories over Utah State and Idaho.
The Bulldogs won in four sets against Utah State on Thursday, dropping the Aggies̢۪ record to 10-7, 2-3 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Bulldogs came out strong in the first set taking an early three-point lead. Utah State powered back and took a 10-6 lead. After a kill by Brianna Clarke, the Bulldogs took the lead for good as they went on to take set one, 25-19.
In set two the Aggies took a 10 point lead as the ̢۪Dogs fell 25-15. In set three, the Bulldogs got a strong effort from Lacey Gera who had seven kills. The ̢۪Dogs were down early, 10-7, but battled back to a 13-12 lead and held on from there to take the set, 25-20.
The fourth set would prove to be the end for the Aggies, as they fell behind by 11 points, 22-11 and failed to recover as they lost the set 25-15.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs beat Idaho (7-10,3-2 in WAC) in dramatic fashion after dropping the first two sets of the match.
The Bulldogs came out fighting for the match after being down two sets. Led by sophomore Baylee Platt̢۪s seven kills, the Bulldogs won the set 28-26.
The Bulldogs continued their rejuvenated play in the fourth set. Led again by Platt, who chipped in five more kills, the ̢۪Dogs took the set 25-22.
In the fifth and final set, the Vandals jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. The Bulldogs would rally to take an 8-7 lead, thanks to a Vandal error. From there, the ̢۪Dogs got kills by Gera and Platt to take the set and the match 15-11.
The win improved the Bulldogs̢۪ record to 10-7 and 3-2 in the WAC. The win also gave the ̢۪Dogs their second win ever against Idaho and the first since 1987. The 10 wins are the most by a Bulldog team since 2004. The ̢۪Dogs, who have a 3-2 in the WAC, are off to their best conference start since 2003.
The Bulldogs now head to Logan, Utah to take on the Aggies on Thursday.
