The “You Lie” comment shouldn't be the topic of conversation here. It should be the health care bill itself. Obama's overall message during his speech was “Hey, quit your bickering and lets try and get something done.” Argument concerning Obama's plan, as well as other plans that have been offered, would be a blessing in a country that is strictly divided among party lines. However, calling the president a liar doesn't accomplish this. If Joe Wilson would have gone on TV after the president's speech and said, “There's no way to enforce the policy concerning undocumented immigrants,” then it would have allowed for reasonable discourse to take place. Perhaps then, we could be discussing how to prevent this from happening, instead of giving the words “you lie” all of our attention.

I don’t believe that this was the time and place for it but it isn’t the huge deal being made of it in the media and congress. I have read the 1000 plus page bill and he is right that this was incorrect information (or at best technically correct but since there are no plans in place to enforce it….).

He was really correct—there exists no enforcement function with regard to legal status (legal perm. resident, citizens, visa holder) and attaining public medical benefits under current proposals—-this country can’t afford to run public programs like the state of California runs its social and health programs.
